Thomas Johnson joined the Population Health Alliance (“PHA”) in April 2021 as Executive Director. PHA is the industry’s only multi-stakeholder professional and trade association solely focused on population health, representing stakeholders from across the health care ecosystem that seek to improve health outcomes, optimize medical and administrative spend and drive affordability.
Thomas Johnson also served for over three years as President and CEO of Family Matters of Greater Washington. Family Matters has served the needs of adults and children in the greater Washington area for 139 years.
Mr. Johnson also holds over twenty years of experience in the Medicaid managed care industry. He previously served for nine years as President and CEO of the Medicaid Health Plans of America, a trade association representing the Medicaid managed care industry. During his tenure there, he established the MHPA Center for Best Practices, and led the industry’s efforts in advocating for Medicaid expansion to be included in the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Johnson also led a coalition of over 30 groups called the Partnership for Medicaid. Mr. Johnson also served as Senior Advisor to the Gorman Health Group on Medicaid policy issues and advised Medicaid managed care and health information companies in Indiana and Alabama. Mr. Johnson also served as Vice President of External Affairs and Compliance for DC Chartered Health Plan.
Mr. Johnson has served on numerous boards and commissions, including currently serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. He is a graduate of Tufts University and Howard University Law Center.
